Word of the Week: Gratitude

Week beginning April 4, 2022; each week we discuss a principle or value of the Qualities of Success. We suggest you use the Word of The Week in your thoughts, deeds and actions.  You might currently possess the quality and desire to develop it to a higher level.  You could replace a bad habit with a good habit.Write an action step and use it daily to develop the Quality in your life. The word this week is GRATITUDE. We should develop a habit of gratitude. Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions.Gratitude is defined as a feeling of appreciation or thankfulness. It is a warm feeling of thankfulness for the world or a specific person. With gratitude we think of the things we have instead of always reaching out for more.  We need to focus on what we have instead of what we lack or do not have I am on a journey of gratitude. Zig Ziglar stated “gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions.  The more you express gratitude for what you have, the more likely you will have even more to express gratitude”.

We need to make gratitude a habit.  Each day I write down three things I am grateful for on a list.  I keep the list in my daily journal.  Each day the three things are different from the ones before on the list.

In the European Journal of Social Psychology, the author quoted it takes 66 days to create a habit.  Keep the list for 66 days and you will have 198 items you are grateful for and your mind will constantly be looking for new things to be grateful and thankful for. There are three ways to practice gratitude.  One, notice things and look for the good; look for things and appreciate them. Secondly, absorb or savor things, really pay attention. Thirdly, express gratitude by writing in a journal  each day three things you are grateful for.

Learn something you can share that will help someone else.  Proverbs 11;25 “whoever brings blessing will be enriched and one who waters will himself be watered”.
